Michael Martin Kofler, was born in 1966 in Villach in the Austrian Carinthian region. Already during his studies at the University of Music and Fine Artz in Vienna under the direction of professors Werner Tripp and Wolfgang Schulz, he was considered a very talented flautist and invited to join the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra, which was conducted by the remarkable conductor Claudio Abbado. After finishing his studies at the Academy of Music in Basel under the direction of professor Peter-Lukas Graf, Kofler began his artistic path as a soloflautist with the Münich Philharmonic Orchestra, which was lead by the legendary conductor Sergiu Celibidache. Since 1983, Michael Martin Kofler appears as a soloist at recitals and with orchestras and chamber groups on concert stages all over the world. As a solo performer, Kofler has worked with famous symphonic orchestras such as Academy of St.Martin in the Fields, symphonic orchestras from Prague, Tokyo, Moscow, Salzburg, Warsaw, Mexico, chamber orchestras from Amsterdam, Budapest and Australia under the leadership of known conductors (James Levine, Sir Neville Marriner, Dimitri Kitajenko, Fabio Luisi, Bruno Weil and others). Since 1989 Kofler is a professor of the flute at the renowned »Mozarteumu« in Salzburg. He regulary collaborates as a member of the board of judges at music competitions and leads masters courses in Salzburg, Japan, Korea and America. For his artistic work he has received numerous award and recognitions.
Mozart Quartet Salzburg, which was established in autumn 1996, has firmly found its place in international music scene. Their interpretation is very individual and full of enthusiasm. In their more than ten years performing they performed with renowned artists like Pepe Romero, Radovan Vladković, Irena Grafenauer, Milan Turković, Wolfgang Mayer, Michael Martin Kofler and others. Regularly they play on famous music festivals.
